Free, searchable locator for local and national resources that provide support for family members impacted by addiction
NEW YORK, Mar. 10, 2022 – SAFE Project and Partnership to End Addiction have partnered to launch the first-of-its-kind online SAFE Family Support Locator, available in English and Spanish. By creating a free, searchable tool to locate local and national resources, the organizations are helping parents, families, friends, coworkers and caregivers who are supporting loved ones with addiction to find the support and services they need in their own communities.
“The COVID-19 pandemic exacerbated the existing addiction and overdose epidemic. In 2020, the number of people with both substance use disorder and mental health challenges more than doubled to over 17 million people,” said Dr. Brandee Izquierdo, executive director of SAFE Project. “As a person in long-term recovery and a family member, I know our new SAFE Family Support Locator will be a valuable tool and resource for families and friends everywhere.”
Families seeking support and services can easily search the database for resources throughout the U.S. – both online and in-person – customizing results based on type, demographics, ancillary services and other preferences. The SAFE Family Support Locator currently features both traditional treatment services and more than 600 family support listings that span the country, with new organizations added monthly.
“This tool is designed to be user-friendly and easy to navigate to help families and caregivers quickly find treatment services and support for their loved ones,” said Fred Muench, Ph.D., president of Partnership to End Addiction. “After a heartbreaking year of record overdose deaths, families need answers and support more than ever. We are proud to partner with SAFE Project to power these tools to provide families and caregivers access to much-needed reliable online support resources – an offering that didn’t exist until today.”
The SAFE Family Support Locator and the SAFE Treatment Locator can be accessed at safelocator.org/en/search. Organizations interested in being added to the locator can fill out the intake form here.
