We were highlighted in the Washington Post this week, in a spotlight article featuring personalized guidance and advice for parents from our own Pat Aussem, Licensed Professional Counselor and Master Addictions Counselor.
“Guidance for Families Dealing with Substance-Use Disorders” is geared toward families who have been affected by a loved one’s substance and addiction. The piece is comprised of personalized tips and supportive help for both parents who are currently struggling with their child’s substance-use disorder, and for parents who have lost a child.
The article accompanied another story, “For Families of Addicts, Narcan Has Truly Been a Lifesaving Drug,” which focused on the importance of naloxone, also known as Narcan. Throughout the article, several individuals who have been personally affected by the opioid epidemic spoke about the prominence of naloxone in saving the lives of those who have overdosed on opioids.
Today’s opioid epidemic is a public health emergency beyond anything we could have ever imagined. Families of a loved one who is facing an opioid addiction can learn evidence-based skills and strategies to help them better communicate with their child.
