    'Spice' Banned in Germany

A marijuana-like drug called 'Spice' has been banned by the German government, the Associated Press reported Jan. 21.

The drug had been marketed as an herbal air freshener, but researchers said it contains synthetic cannabinoids, similar to marijuana. Users could roll the herbal blend into cigarettes and smoke it; three grams sold for about $39.

Austria, the Netherlands and Switzerland also have banned the drug, which was popular not only for its psychoactive effects but because it could not be detected by conventional drug tests.
