Screening, Brief Intervention and Referral to Treatment (SBIRT) programs are hot right now — there’s an impressive research base showing they work to cut costs and can nip addiction in the bud. SBIRT also stars in the Obama administration’s new National Drug Control Strategy.
But what about the human side of this somewhat nebulous protocol? Wisconsin Initiative to Promote Healthy Lifestyles (WIPHL) has produced a pair of videos that include testimonials from patients, physicians, policymakers, insurers and other who have seen SBIRT in action. “I would be dead. I’m sure of that,” says one patient who was referred to treatment through SBIRT Wisconsin. The videos are available for free download at Vimeo; contact WIPHL communications specialist Joan Fischer for more info.
