To reduce prescription drug abuse among seniors, the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) is expanding a grant program targeting adults 60 and older who are at risk for or experiencing behavioral health problems. The grant also aims to reduce suicides among this group.
The grants will expand Older Adults Targeted Capacity Expansion (TCE) programs, Senior Journal reports. The article notes that nearly three in 10 people between the ages of 57 to 85 use at least five prescriptions. SAMHSA is expected to provide $3.56 million in grants. Ten grantees will receive $356,344 for up to 18 months. The article notes that actual amounts may vary, depending on the availability of funds. To apply you must be either a current or previous Older Adult Targeted Capacity Expansion (TCE) grantee from cohorts FY2002-2008.
