A recent poll by industry trade magazine Adweek reached a conclusion that the magazine’s readers probably were not happy to hear: most Americans support firm government regulation of tobacco advertising.
Adweek reported Sept. 21 that the Adweek Media/Harris Poll conducted in July found that 31 percent of those polled favored a complete ban on tobacco ads, while 14 percent said that such ads should be subject to tougher regulation and 27 percent said the current level of regulation is appropriate.
Only 11 percent said tobacco ads should be unregulated. Older Americans were more likely to favor a complete ban.
