Both Party Conventions Highlight Opioid Epidemic

The opioid epidemic has been a featured issue at both the Republican and Democratic National Conventions, an indication of the issue’s increasing significance in both parties, The Washington Post reports.

At the Democratic convention this week, a woman whose daughter has struggled with addiction spoke during prime time. The former governor of New Hampshire, where more than 400 people died from drug overdoses in 2015, also spoke. Delegates, elected officials and others gathered in Philadelphia for a recovery forum on Tuesday.

At last week’s Republican convention, participants held a similar forum in Cleveland. Both conventions have had a recovery and wellness room.
