Md. Senator Pulls Beer Pong Ban Legislation

Legislation to ban drinking games like beer pong and flip cup in Baltimore bars is now off the table after beer-pong enthusiasts rallied opposition to the bill, the Baltimore Sun reported Feb. 11.

State Sen. George Della Jr. withdrew the bill this week after receiving a flurry of emails from drinking-game supporters.

“We’re getting inundated with so many e-mails that I don’t have the time to fool with it,” Della said. “I just hope that if people continue doing it, they do it in a way that there’s not excessive drinking and disrespect for the surrounding neighborhoods.”

Support against the legislation came from MD Beer Pong — a group that proclaims itself as the state’s largest beer pong league. “We had a campaign going to get everybody to contact the senator, and I was really happy to see all the people that came together,” MD Beer Pong co-founder Jim Reiter said. “We understand the importance of being responsible. We’ve been doing this for a couple of years now. We don’t want anybody coming down on us.”
