Marijuana School Attracts Thousands of Students

California-based Oaksterdam University’s classes on growing and marketing marijuana have attracted nearly 7,000 students and have a waiting list with hundreds of more potential enrollees, USA Today reported Feb. 9.

Launched in Oakland in 2007, the school now has satellite branches in Los Angeles and elsewhere, including Michigan, with plans to expand to other states. Students learn about marijuana cultivation, the legalities surrounding medical marijuana, how to lobby lawmakers, and more. Some students don’t want to be publicly identified out of fears of prosecution.

A two-day Marijuana 101 class in Los Angeles costs $250. “It’s been amazing, the response,” said Oaksterdam founder Richard Lee. “People come in from all over the country.”
