The world’s biggest brewing companies are expanding their line of nonalcoholic products. The Wall Street Journal reports the companies are responding to stricter alcohol regulations and a desire by consumers for healthier beverages.
One company, Anheuser-Busch InBev, said at least one-fifth of its beer volume worldwide will be no or low alcohol by the end of 2025, up from 6 percent this year. Another company, Carlsberg, said it plans to at least double craft and nonalcoholic beer volumes from 6 percent to 12 percent by 2022.
Nonalcoholic beer is popular in Muslim-majority countries such as Iran and Indonesia. It is commonly consumed with tapas in Spain, and is a popular choice in Germany after sports activities.
