Kansas Smoking Ban Appears Dead

Kansas lawmakers have tabled a bill that would have imposed a statewide indoor-smoking ban, likely killing the measure for this year’s legislative session.

The Associated Press reported March 18 that the Kansas House Health and Human Services Committee said it needed more information on the bill, which previously passed the state Senate on a 26-13 vote. State legislative committees meet for the last time this year on Friday, meaning the measure is probably dead.

The bill would have banned smoking in and near bars, restaurants, workplaces and government buildings.
