Hazelden and NAADAC Partner to Train Clinicians on Co-Occurring Disorders

Hazelden and the National Association of Alcoholism and Drug Abuse Counselors (NAADAC) announced a new partnership to improve training for clinicians on co-occurring disorders, PR Newswire reported Sept. 10.

Cynthia Moreno Tuohy, executive director of NAADAC, cited an estimate from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) that “half of Americans with mental illness also abuse illicit drugs or alcohol.” Her counterpart, Hazelden president and CEO, Mark G. Mishek, said the two organizations will offer clinicians “collaborative, in-person training and distance learning in the integrated treatment of co-occurring disorders.”

The title of their new initiative is, “Integrating Treatment for Co-Occurring Disorders: An Introduction to What Every Addiction Counselor Needs to Know.” In addition, the two organizations will host joint web conferences and highlight training opportunities and relevant publications on their websites.

More information can be found on Hazelden's behavioral health website, and NAADAC's website
