The new Georgia Meth Project will use graphic ads and images to warn teens about the dangers of methamphetamine use, the Augusta Chronicle reported March 8.
Program supporters like Lt. Robert Partain, of the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Division believe that the images showing damage to meth users’ bodies and lives will deter others from using the drug. Partain said that the local market for meth has been expanding, with five meth labs discovered in the Augusta area.
Data indicates that Georgia has the third-highest rate of meth use in the U.S.
George Meth Project ads include one depicting a teen suicide and another showing a filthy bathroom with the caption, “No one thinks they will lose their virginity here. Meth will change that.”
