Deadly Bladder Cancer More Likely in Heavy Smokers

People who smoke more have a greater chance of developing more aggressive and deadly bladder cancer, compared with those who smoke less or who are nonsmokers, a new study suggests.

Smoking is a common cause of bladder cancer, but until now it has not been known how it affects the course of the disease, HealthDay reports.

The study of 212 bladder cancer patients appears in the journal Cancer. In a news release, the researchers note “the link between smoking intensity and prognosis found in this study points to the incrementally harmful effects of smoking.”
