BJA National Initiatives: Addressing Substance Abuse

The U.S. Justice Department's Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA) will award grants of up to $1 million to improve the criminal-justice system's response to substance-abuse related crime.

The BJA FY 10 National Initiatives: Addressing Substance Abuse grants are open to for-profit (commercial) organizations, nonprofit organizations, faith-based and community organizations, and institutions of higher learning.

The program is funded through the Edward Byrne Memorial Competitive Grant Program, which helps local communities improve the capacity of state and local criminal justice systems, prevent or combat juvenile delinquency, provide assistance to victims of crime (other than compensation), and provides for national support efforts including training and technical-assistance programs strategically targeted to address local needs.

Application deadline is May 18. For more details, see the full announcement online (PDF).
