Army Looking to Hire 130 Substance-Abuse Counselors By October 1

The Army is trying to fill 130 substance-abuse counselor positions by October 1, the Army News Service reports. The Army Substance Abuse Program is looking for professionals to help substance-impaired soldiers who have the potential to continue military service, according to the article.

Positions are available in locations including Fort Hood, TX, Fort Bragg, NC, Fort Jackson, MS, and Fort Leonard Wood, MO. Counselors are also needed overseas in Germany and Korea. These positions are not in war zones, and counselors could choose their location.

Starting August 1, for one week, the Army will accept applications for counselors. The pay ranges from $50,000 to $93,000 a year, depending on location. The benefits package includes health and life insurance, matching contributions toward Thrift Savings Plan (the federal government-sponsored retirement savings and investment plan), and leave.

Dr. Les McFarling, Director of the Army Substance Abuse Program, told the news service that counselors who work as employees of the U.S. military, who are practicing on a military installation, can practice in any state, regardless of what state they are licensed in.

Counselors who do not have substance-abuse certification would need to get it within one year.
