Alcohol Tax Repeal Will Be First Question on Mass. Ballot

The first thing Massachusetts voters will see on November’s ballot is a question calling for repeal of the state’s alcohol tax, the Boston Herald reported July 15.

The first question on the ballot will be an up or down vote on repeal of the alcohol sales tax, which was first instated in 2009.

The third question on the ballot gives voters the option of reducing state sales tax from 6.25 percent to 3 percent.

The alcohol tax helps pay for addiction programs, but detractors claim it makes the state less competitive with nearby, tax-free New Hampshire.
