The U.S. Senate has confirmed David K. Mineta as the Deputy Director of Demand Reduction atthe Office of National Drug Control Policy (ONDCP), and Benjamin Tucker as ONDCP’s Deputy Director of State, Local and Tribal Affairs.
With the imminent departure of ONDCP deputy director Tom McLellan, Mineta will become the point person for addiction treatment and prevention within the White House agency.
“David Mineta has experience working with community-based organizations and understands the need for a community-based approach to substance-abuse prevention,” said Arthur Dean, chairman and CEO of Community Anti-Drug Coailtions of America, who cheered both appointments. Mineta previously worked as deputy director of Asian American Recovery Services (AARS) in California and as a counselor in San Jose’s School District and in Santa Clara’s Alcohol and Drug Department. He also has served on CSAP’s national advisory council.
